Maintenance:

Prefilters can be cleaned periodically using a vacuum hose attachment. The frequency can vary depending on the environment. For instance, in a dustier environment (or one with pets) it is recommended that the prefilter is vacuumed monthly. 

The prefilter should not be submerged in or sprayed with water or any other liquid (cleaner, etc.). Doing so can leave moisture behind that can facilitate the growth of bacteria and/or mold.
